Washington A Hotbed Of Cronyism And Collusion!

To Americans who accuse Washington of being a hotbed of cronyism and collusion, they need look no farther than the settlement between Elon Musk and the SEC for proof. So much for Trump draining the swamp! For all the turmoil and damage Musk has spread upon investors it seems rather than jail time or any meaningful punishment he will receive the equivalent of a slap on the wrist. Those that were skeptical that the US regulator would do anything have been proven more or less correct and as a bonus for Musk he has been allowed to neither admit nor deny guilt which means the settlement now makes any potential criminal case against Musk more complicated. Musk is set to make far more than the amount he was fined when the markets reopen and shorts are squeezed out of their positions with huge losses. This sends an absolutely horrible message to all investors looking for justice.

Apparently protecting the exorbitant stock price of Tesla and those holding long positions took precedence over the law and justice. Steven Peikin, co-director of the SEC’s Enforcement Division, said in a statement. “The resolution is intended to prevent further market disruption and harm to Tesla’s shareholders.” According to the posted settlement filings on September 29, the SEC Musk will step down for 3 years as Chairman and pay a $20 million fine. Tesla will also pay a $20 million fine and the total $40 million in penalties will be distributed to harmed investors which will be overseen by a court-approved process.

Censoring Liberty

The Occidental Observer
There is a Canadian woman being held in a German jail without any recourse to friends or family or even legal representation. She is presently charged with no crime but was arrested for a video that questioned the “Holocaust” and is therefore that most evil of criminals, a “holocaust denier.” Most Americans would view her situation as a version of Orwell’s 1984 and believe it fictional. It isn’t. Today, in many Western nations, not only can an individual be imprisoned for being an “anti-Semite,” but that person’s lawyer can be arrested and imprisoned for providing a proper defense against that charge to his client!

Even worse, this attack on human liberty lacks limits. Exactly what is “anti-Semitism” and, in the same vein, what is “racism”—and is either a matter of criminality? After all, both of these concepts are political constructs, the latter emanating from communist Leon Trotsky, one of the first to use the word. Now, most people know the definition of “bigotry.” A bigot hates people for something over which they have no control whether it is it race or nationality or any other part of the human condition. On the other hand, matters of choice—such as religion—with their inevitable results are different as these can motivate people to do things that are in fact deserving of condemnation. Yet even the actual bigot does not break the law unless he commits a crime motivated by his bigotry!

Today the terms ‘anti-Semite’ and ‘racist’ are based not only on people’s reactions to matters of nationality and race, but on beliefs and behaviors found in and committed by the groups involved. In other words, if today I point out that communism has mainly Jewish origins and that the present-day left is financed and led by a great many persons of that religious and cultural persuasion, I am immediately judged to be an anti-Semite. It doesn’t matter if what I say is true, it only matters that I am pointing out a reality that certain groups do not want publicly voiced. If I question any Jewish historical construct, again I am an anti-Semite even if I can prove my claim with facts. And the same can be said of unpopular comments about Blacks! No matter how factual the comments, their utterance is simply not countenanced. Thus, bigotry is no longer a matter of mindless hate directed at particular groups, but any negative response, however valid, to the actions of those same groups.

Back to Monkeys: British Naked Dating Show, by Ruslan Ostashko (contains nudity)

The third season of the scandalous TV show Naked Attraction, that is, “Naked Attraction” kicked off this year in the UK. The country’s media, which Russian liberals present to us as a standard, make titanic efforts to expand the notorious “Overton window”.
Did you know about the existence of the British show, whose members choose a couple for their external sexual characteristics? I just found out the other day and was impressed… The show, it turns out, is on one of the leading English channels – Channel 4 – already for a third year.
All of this is served as an “experiment”. In any case, this was written by a reviewer I found for the first season of Naked Attraction:
“The show host, Anna Richardson, and the main guest are fully dressed. Before them there are 6 color booths, each of which has a potential partner for a date. Yes, yes, not for sex, but for a date. The essence of the show is to find the ideal partner for physical parameters, and after a while to check whether further relationships have developed or not. This is a kind of television sociological, psychological and anthropological experiment, during which you can learn a lot of new things, and not just admire the naked men and women.”
But the beginning of the first season shocked the [British] public in 2016. “In this show of acquaintances, we return to the basics,” pretentiously proclaims the narrator. And what are the fundamentals of humanity? That’s right, monkeys… Dwarf chimpanzees, bonobos, act in the same way, choosing a couple for their external sexual characteristics.

Woke Nigga Kanye West Lectures SNL Jews with Pro-Trump Speech

Kanye West may very well be the wokest nigga among woke niggaz. He was on Saturday Night Live last night and the kikes back stage were trying to bully him into not wearing his pro-Trump “Make America Great Again” hat when he performed on stage.

Not happy with this situation, he went live on stage with his MAGA hat and dropped some serious facts to the audience. He even talked about how the media was 90 percent “liberal” which is just code for the media being 90 percent Jewish.

Ari Fleischer: Dems Who Accused Kavanaugh Of Gang Rape Would Be ‘Led Away By The Marshal’ In Court

Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer tweeted a defense of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Sunday morning.
Fleischer, who worked alongside Kavanaugh during the George W. Bush administration, was responding to critics who suggested Kavanaugh’s visible anger — over allegations he repeatedly claimed to be false — proves that he does not have the temperament to sit on the Supreme Court.

Iran, Israel exchange barbs during UNGA debates with Syria at heart of discord

UN building in NYC
Syria remains at the heart of escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, and the exchange of accusations between the two nations during the week of the General Debate of the 73rd UN General Assembly (UNGA) clearly indicates that these sharp disagreements show no sign of abating, experts told Sputnik.

On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used the UN platform to announce that his country allegedly discovered Iran's second secret atomic warehouse used to store nuclear-related material.

The claims met a swift and harsh response from Tehran. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif noted that these "revelations" had been meant to obfuscate what he called the fact that Israel was the only country with "secret" and "undeclared" nuclear weapons program, calling on Tel Aviv to disclose it to international inspectors.

Delusion on Campus by Steve Sailer

In her new book The Diversity Delusion, Heather Mac Donald takes on identity politics far more forthrightly than Francis Fukuyama dared to in his new book Identity, which I reviewed last week.

Just compare their subtitles: Mac Donald chose How Race and Gender Pandering Corrupt the University and Undermine Our Culture, while Fukuyama went with The Demand for Dignity and the Politics of Resentment, even though “dignity” is hardly the first word suggested by identity politics. As I foresaw:

Nor do I expect the upcoming Supreme Court nomination hearing/teen sex comedy to be a high point in the history of American dignity.

Interestingly, both Fukuyama and Mac Donald studied literary theory at Yale under deconstructionist Paul de Man, a remarkable con man who successfully sailed with whatever tide was flowing, whether the Nazi occupation in his native Belgium or French high theory in America. But eventually both Fukuyama and Mac Donald realized French postmodernism is pernicious nonsense.
You've Never Seen Breakfasts More Outrageous Than These 5—Pinky Promise

Nonetheless, I think Michel Foucault was onto something with his constant harping on how power infiltrates language. Granted, Foucault’s obsession with power was an offshoot of his gay sadomasochism, which led to him dying of AIDS in 1984. Still, his notion that elites would naturally try to socially construct how people think in order to preserve their privileges is hardly implausible.

Yet that ought to lead to the question: Who, precisely, are “the powerful” in 2018?

We are constantly lectured about how the increasingly distant past has apparently permanently marginalized various identity groups, so they must be handed ever more power in the present. But aren’t those who are being paid to do this lecturing part of the powerful?

Mac Donald shines her spotlight on institutional power in the universities, especially California colleges such as UCLA.

Germany Rises as ‘Eurostan’ Looms Closer by Lasha Darkmoon

The new ‘Eurostan’ in the making:
Countries impacted by the migrant crisis

The writing is on the wall. The old Germany of our Christian ancestors is in the process of being destroyed. And after Germany, Europe is the target.
The EU, as we all know who have eyes to see, has now become the United States of Europe in all but name — an undemocratic and despotic  confederation of states without borders whose primary aim appears to be White Genocide, i.e., the slow and systematic destruction of the white indigenous people of Europe  by means of uncontrolled mass immigration and mongrelization.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been the main force behind the ongoing destruction of the Europe of our ancestors, the Europe of traditional values firmly rooted in its Christian ethos.
Under Angela Merkel’s auspices, Germany has heard its death knell. It has seen its great cities with their shimmering spires, and its peaceful  towns and villages nestling in the green countryside, invaded by well over a million uninvited guests from lawless lands who have turned their nation into a multicultural zoo. German women are being raped and sexually assaulted literally every day of the year by migrants. And still Frau Merkel sits there smiling complacently amid the ruins of her country, making no attempt to turn back the tides of mounting terror.
—   §   —
Domestic unrest is now the default condition in contemporary Germany. Take the recent events in Chemnitz, a city in Saxony (pop: 246,000) and formerly a part of East Germany. For a city of this small size, its ethnic population is disproportionately large and unassimilated, giving rise to frequent inter-racial tensions. The Muslim sector is the largest. By December 2017, the city contained 2,875 Syrians, 1,165 Afghans, and 1,115 Indians (although the Indians are not necessarily Muslim). Apart from these, the city housed roughly 1,200 Chinese immigrants and and a slightly smaller number of Russians. (See here, demography).
Neither the Chinese nor Russians in Chemnitz  have been a thorn in the flesh to the local German population. It is a different story with the Muslims, the principal troublemakers—for reasons not altogether clear to this writer, given that most of the Muslims I have personally met have been exemplary citizens. Be that as it may, the official figures given above are almost certain to be an underestimate, since they do not cover the large number illegal immigrants who contribute so disproportionately to crime figures.
In order to counter all these new threats to the indigenous population—who appear to suffer from this infuriating tendency of wanting to live among their own kind in a relatively well-ordered and peaceful society—a hard core of resistance has naturally developed. This survival mechanism of resistance to large numbers of uncouth and unruly foreigners in their midst, all seen as potentially dangerous, is described in the mainstream media as “xenophobia” and “racism”.

Killing the White Man in Us by Kevin Alfred Strom

THE ESTABLISHMENT in the Western world, led by its dominant Jewish faction, is attempting a genocide of one of this planet’s major races — our race, the White race. One of the facets of that genocidal program is convincing Whites, through propaganda and faked or prostituted “science,” that they ought not to care about whether our race survives or not. One way they do that is by telling us that we never existed — and don’t exist — in any meaningful way. If “race does not exist,” then obviously there’s no White race to exterminate. And why care about something that’s just a “social construction” — a figment of our bad racist imaginations? Just keep on watching TV — keep on being childless — keep on “welcoming refugees” — keep on “fighting racism” — keep on averting your eyes when you see White women raped and abused, White men murdered, and White people denigrated and punished and prevented from defending themselves and legally persecuted if they try, even in the most peaceful way imaginable, to warn their brothers and sisters. Just keep looking away.
In 1892, Richard Henry Pratt of the US Army, a leader in setting up “Indian Schools” to forcibly assimilate Amerindians into our society (something which harms both races), explained what he was trying to do by saying — and these are his exact words — “A great general has said that the only good Indian is a dead one. In a sense, I agree with the sentiment, but only in this: That all the Indian there is in the race should be dead. Kill the Indian in him, and save the man.” (Much of the support among Whites for such Indian Schools, and for “killing the Indian” in the students there, was motivated by a hope that the souls of the natives would be “saved” thereby, and that more Amerindians would be “won” for Jewish-derived Christianity.) Similarly, the Jewish power structure, its White collaborators, and the governments it owns are now trying with some success to kill the White man in us, as a prelude to our physical elimination from the Earth.

California Governor Vetoes Patently Unconstitutional and Ridiculous ‘Fak...

Gee Officer Krupke . . .

Fenster writes:
While trying to remember the last words to that song I had this unrelated memory.
Way back in the 1990’s, back before our current sophisticated understandings of intersectionality and other advanced concepts, the Diversity Dynamo was just warming up.  It was a more innocent time, though a time still redolent of ideas like multiculturalism and privilege, albeit in crude and truncated form.
Back then I stumbled on an article in a prestige journal highlighting how one campus was dealing with all of these newly emergent issues.  I wish I could lay my hands on it but I cannot so this synopsis will have to do.
The article concerned an elite campus–the kind of campus that paid attention then, as it would now, to these kinds of issues.  One notable feature of the article is that it was permitted to both appreciate the current state of the art on matters relating to diversity but at the same time express some skepticism.
You’d think skepticism would have naturally been allowed to grow as these issues have ripened to the point of their current rot in the present day.  But that is of course not how it works.  It works the other way round.  The increased lunacy was accompanied not by heightened skepticism but the opposite.  No one is now allowed to question hardened dogma.  It is enough to make one pine for the days of 1991’s water buffalo incident. Back then one might appreciate the rationale for diversity and still be permitted to roll one’s eyes and chuckle at its excesses in practice.  No such humor is allowed today, comrade.
But I digress.
The article in question was positive enough about diversity but closed with a chat with a couple of students who approached the matter from a different angle.  Yes, they opined, it is important to understand difference.  But do we need all the browbeating seminars?   Perhaps, they theorized, things are simpler than all that.  Perhaps the way to go about it is to start with a friendly “hello” to someone who may have a different cultural or racial background.  Then proceed with an open and respectful conversation.

Hmm…Liberal Group Says Kavanaugh Is Guilty ‘Regardless Of What The FBI Finds’

So much for a search for truth… Liberal pro-choice group, the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws (NARAL), has come out and said regardless of what the FBI finds in their investigation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, he is still/already guilty.
The verdict was cast in an email the group sent out shortly after Kavanaugh cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of 11 to 10. The vote in question was that of Republican Senator Jeff Flake who was torn on how he would vote up until the final day.
On Friday, Flake said he would vote to push Kavanaugh through the committee but would not support him in the full-body Senate vote without a one-week FBI investigation. The committee then petitioned President Trump to open the FBI investigation and he did.

Forgotten images of Vietnam: Never before published photos of the 20-year-long war shows the violence, heartbreak and brief moments of levity on the front-line

A rare color picture from the collection shows a medic treating a patient designed by the Food Machinery Corporation at Qaung Tri which could carry nearly 13 men or four patients
Arresting images of the Vietnam War that depict life away from the battlefield and the soldier's interaction with civilians have been immortalized in a new book and exhibition.
Art Greenspon  was in his twenties when he worked  as a photographer for a weekly tabloid called 'Overseas Weekly in Vietnam' and he captured some of the most iconic images of the Vietnam war.
His work and that of others is rediscovered in a new book and exhibition, entitled 'We Shot the War: Overseas Weekly in Vietnam'. The exhibition runs from now until December 8 at the Herbert Hoover Memorial Exhibit Pavilion at Stanford University.
They offer relaxed portraits of American GIs and Vietnamese civilians taken between 1966 and 1972 and mostly show the long hours of boredom and tedium that dominate life at war.
Other images depict combat scenes and drama of the battlefield in addition as the injuries sustained by soldiers and civilians.
Here are just a selection of images which capture moments of levity and humanity during the long-drawn out war.

In yet another normal day at Facebook, the social media company has told users not to panic again after it was revealed that some 50 million accounts may have been compromised by a security flaw, as usual.

The totally normal, run-of-the-mill problem occurred when hackers exploited a trio of software flaws to steal "access tokens," using the "view as" feature. These are equivalent of digital keys that enable people to automatically log back into the social network.

But then this is the sort of thing that happens at Facebook all the time anyway.

The perfectly normal abuse of privacy and personal security was revealed on Friday, when Facebook announced that up to 50 million accounts may have been breached by the hackers. But of course it could have been announced on any day of the week.

As people kind of know this sort of thing is happening all the time, the social network's efforts to convince users to trust it with their data suffered no real blow. I mean Facebook's reputation is already as low as it can go.

The social network said it is investigating the harm done, and may try to protect users' data by selling it to several criminal organisations and possibly China for safekeeping, while banning users for using hate speech words like "men," "women," and "bake the cake."

The cost of cucking is defeat

James Kirkpatrick explains how a refusal to embrace identity politics leaves Republicans at a growing strategic disadvantage in Florida:
A recent poll finds black Democrat Andrew Gillum is building a comfortable lead over white Republican Ron DeSantis in the Florida governor’s race. [New poll shows Gillum leading DeSantis by 6 points, by Tim Swift, Local 10, September 19, 2018] As Conservatism Inc. never ceases to remind its dwindling constituency, Gillum is, like other Democrats this election cycle, essentially a socialist, and DeSantis is a “Reagan conservative”. [For a Florida Governor, It’s a Reagan Conservative vs. a Sanders Socialist, by Neal Freeman, National Review, September 5, 2018] But it’s not 1980 anymore and Gillum’s campaigning for what Governing’s Graham Vyse correctly calls “key Democratic Socialist priorities” isn’t scaring away voters. [How Democratic Socialists Performed in State and Local Primaries, September 20, 2018] The truth is that politics has changed, campaigns are now about identity and demographics, and DeSantis, like the Stupid Party generally, has no idea how to handle it.

Thus DeSantis is currently plagued with yet another case of what the System Main Stream Media terms a “racial controversy.” A supporter, Steven M. Alembik, tweeted “F— THE MUSLIM N—–” after a typically sanctimonious Barack Obama speech, leading the DeSantis campaign immediately to perform a full grovel. This was particularly stupid because Alembik is Jewish and an adroit defense of him, for example attributing his hostility to Islam to his obviously passionate concern for Israel, would have helped DeSantis with a powerful Florida constituency.

Ted Cruz And Wife Chased Out Of DC Restaurant By Anti-Kavanaugh Protesters

Senator Ted Cruz, a supporter of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, was verbally assaulted by a group of protesters at a DC restaurant Monday night while trying to dine with his wife, as seen in a video posted by twitter account Smash Racism DC.
The protesters, chanting “we believe survivors,” blocked Cruz’s wife from exiting the restaurant at one point, prompting the Texas Senator to ask them to “let my wife through.”
In another clip, a woman claiming to be a survivor of sexual assault approached Cruz and his wife accompanied by her backup chanters, asking to discuss Brett Kavanaugh, “I know that you’re very close friends with Mr. Kavanaugh. Do you believe survivors sir? We believe survivors. Senator, I have a right to know what your position is on Brett Kavanaugh. I’m a survivor of sexual assault. There are now three people that have come forward and said that Brett Kavanaugh attacked them. Have you talked to him about that?”

Russia’s Economy Little Harmed by West’s Sanctions

Despite Barack Obama’s economic sanctions against Russia, and the plunge in oil prices that King Saud agreed to with Obama’s Secretary of State John Kerry on 11 September 2014, the economic damages that the US and Saudis have aimed against a particular oil-and-gas giant, Russia, have hit mostly elsewhere — at least till now.

Pope Francis, right, and President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, review the honor guard during the welcome ceremony at the Kadriorg Presidential Palace in Estonia on Tuesday.
Pope Francis acknowledged Tuesday that the sex abuse scandals rocking the Catholic Church have outraged the faithful and are driving them away, and said the church must change its ways if it wants to keep future generations.
Francis referred directly to the crisis convulsing his papacy on the fourth and final day of his Baltic pilgrimage, which coincided with the release of a devastating new report into decades of sex abuse and cover-up in Germany.
Francis told a gathering of young people in Estonia, considered one of the least religious countries in the world, that he knew many young people felt the church had nothing to offer them and simply doesn’t understand their problems today.
“They are outraged by sexual and economic scandals that do not meet with clear condemnation, by our unpreparedness to really appreciate the lives and sensibilities of the young, and simply by the passive role we assign them,” he told a gathering of Catholic, Lutheran and Orthodox young people in the Kaarli Lutheran Church in the capital Tallinn.
He said the Catholic Church wants to respond to those complaints transparently and honestly.
“We ourselves need to be converted,” he said. “We have to realize that in order to stand by your side we need to change many situations that, in the end, put you off.”
It was a very public admission of the church’s failures in confronting sex abuse scandals, which have roared back to the headlines recently with revelations of abuse and cover-up in the U.S., Chilean and now German church. The German bishops conference on Tuesday was releasing a report that found that some 3,677 people — more than half of them 13 or younger and nearly a third of them altar boys — were abused by clergy between 1946 and 2014.
The report, compiled by university researchers, found evidence that some files were manipulated or destroyed, many cases were not brought to justice, and that sometimes abusers were simply moved to other dioceses without the congregations being informed about their past, according to the results that leaked earlier in the German press.

The Grey Lady is becoming a laughingstock: NYT tech expert ridiculed after 'fact-checking' obviously fake Trump pic

viral picture trump floods fake

New York Times columnist has posted a 'fact-check' of a widely-shared, clearly doctored picture of US President Donald Trump in a hurricane rescue. Conservatives gleefully suggested other obvious Trump memes for NYT to verify.

Kevin Roose, NYT's business columnist, who has taken on writing about social media and US politics, triggered an avalanche of memes and mostly sarcastic comments on Twitter when he reposted a picture showing US President Donald Trump handing a MAGA cap to a hurricane victim standing waist-deep in muddy waters.

The original photo was taken during the Texas flooding in 2015 and its doctored version resurfaced during Hurricane Harvey.

Roose tweeted that the altered image has been shared 275,000 times on Facebook, suggesting the social media giant could apply the same tools it uses to combat 'revenge porn' "to prevent obviously fake photos from going viral."

Hey California Taxpayers: Are You Ready For The Serious Consequences Of Your Latest Progressive Law?

If America is the Great Experiment, California must be its petri dish… here’s what they’re cooking up THIS time.
It’s all well and good to be ‘inclusive’, ‘supportive’ and ‘non-judgemental’
Those are very well-meaning and supportive attitudes. But ideas have consequences, and even ‘well-meaning’ policies can have unintended consequences. First, let’s look at the radical new policies California is putting forward.
…in the nation’s most progressive state, you only need to be 12 years old to privately seek and consent to treatment for gender transitioning.
The recently enacted California law was written to “provide that the rights of minors and nonminors in foster care, as described above, include the right to be involved in the development of case plan elements related to placement and gender affirming health care, with consideration of their gender identity.”
The new law also includes this provision: “All children in foster care, as well as former foster youth up to 26 years of age, are entitled to Medi-Cal coverage without cost share or income or resource limits. The Medi-Cal program provides transition-related health care services when those services are determined to be medically necessary.”
That means that all tax-paying Californians will help to pay for all the various services included in these transition cases, regardless of your opinion of the matter. [emphasis added] […] Many studies have found that human brains take a long time to develop fully—as long as 25 years or more. That means that adolescents are at a distinct disadvantage in decision making. That’s why you see the immaturity issues listed in the CDC analysis above. Chronologically, adolescents are only about halfway to full brain development. Yet the new California allows—and almost compels—adolescents to make irreversible, potentially life-altering decisions.

Not only are they writing a blank check for these procedures, they are using your tax dollars to do so. So, if such a procedure violates your conscience, too bad, your opinion on the matter is not required. You will be paying for it.
But it doesn’t end there. Theoretically, at least, taxpayers could be on the hook for a lot more than that. Here’s why:
Some observers have noted a correlation between those who experience symptoms of gender dysphoria have a higher-than-average history of some sort of traumatic experience or higher-than-average likelihood of living through a divorce.

Rod Rosenstein & The FBI Coup Attempt

Has Russia Given Up on the West? By Patrick J. Buchanan

By the end of his second term, President Ronald Reagan, who had called the Soviet Union an “evil empire,” was strolling through Red Square with Russians slapping him on the back.
Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive.
And how have we husbanded the fruits of our Cold War triumph?
This month, China’s leader-for-life Xi Jinping stood beside Vladimir Putin as 3,000 Chinese troops maneuvered with 300,000 Russians, 1,000 planes and 900 tanks in Moscow’s largest military exercise in 40 years.
An uncoded message to the West from the East.
Richard Nixon’s great achievement in bringing Peking in from the cold, and Reagan’s great achievement of ending the Cold War, are history.
Bolshevism may be dead, but Russian nationalism, awakened by NATO’s quick march to Russia’s ancient frontiers, is alive and well.
Russia appears to have given up on the West and accepted that its hopes for better times with President Donald Trump are not to be.
U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley is berating Russia for secretly trading with North Korea in violation of U.N. sanctions, saying, “Lying, cheating, and rogue behavior have become the new norm of the Russian culture.”
Cold wars don’t get much colder than defaming another country’s culture as morally debased.
The U.S. has also signaled that it may start supplying naval and anti-aircraft weaponry to Ukraine, as Russia is being warned to cease its inspections of ships passing from the Black Sea through the Kerch Strait into the Sea of Azov.
The three-mile-wide strait lies between Crimea and Kerch Peninsula. In Russia’s eyes, both banks of the strait are Russian national territory.
With U.S. backing, Ukraine has decided to build a naval base on the Sea of Azov to “create conditions for rebuffing the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation in this region.”
Kiev has several patrol boats in the Sea of Azov, with a few more to be transferred there in coming months. Russia’s navy could sink those boats and wipe out that base in minutes.
Are we going to send our Navy across the Black Sea to protect Ukraine’s naval rights inside a sea that has been as historically Russian as the Chesapeake Bay is historically American?
Poland this week invited the U.S. to establish a major base on its soil, for which Poland would pay two billion dollars, to be called “Fort Trump.”
Trump seemed to like the idea, and the name.
Yet, the Bush II decision to install a missile defense system in Poland brought a Kremlin counter-move: the installation of nuclear-capable Iskander cruise missiles in Kaliningrad, the former German territory on Poland’s northern border annexed by Stalin at the end of World War II.
In the Balkans, over Russian protests, the U.S. is moving to bring Macedonia into NATO. But before Macedonia can join, half its voters have to come out on Sept. 30 to approve a change in the nation’s name to North Macedonia. This is to mollify Greece, which claims the birthplace of Alexander the Great as it own.
Where are we going with all this?
With U.S. warships making regular visits into the Eastern Baltic and Black Sea, the possibility of a new base in Poland, and growing lethal aid to Ukraine to fight pro-Russian rebels in the Donbass and the Russian navy on the Sea of Azov, are we not crowding the Russians a bit?
Are we confident the Russians will always back down?
When Georgia, believing it could kick Russian peacekeepers out and re-annex its seceded province of South Ossetia, attacked in August 2008, the Russian Army came crashing in and ran the Georgians out in 48 hours.
George W. Bush wisely decided not to issue an ultimatum or send troops. He ignored the hawks in his own party who had helped goad him into the great debacle of his presidency: Iraq.
So, what exactly is the U.S. grand strategy with regard to Russia?
What might be called the McCain wing of the Republican Party has sought to bring Ukraine and Georgia into NATO, which would make the containment of Russia America’s policy in perpetuity.

When an Israeli settler is killed, everyone notices by Jonathan Ofir

On Sunday, the Israeli settler Ari Fuld was stabbed by a Palestinian child of 17, Khalil Jabarin, at the entrance to a mall near the West Bank’s Gush Etzion Junction. Fuld was armed with a pistol, ran after Jabarin, and managed to shoot him. Jabarin was reportedly shot by others as well yet survived. Fuld succumbed to his wounds shortly after.
Fuld was a prominent right-wing pundit (here he is on Israeli News Talk Radio, hailing the detention at Ben Gurion airport of Peter Beinart and advocating that all leftists should be detained), and his American background helped him in reaching out to many Americans and other English speakers.
This piece could have been about so many other deaths in Palestine or Israel. It could have been about the six Palestinians who were murdered by Israeli forces a couple of days later, which PLO Executive Committee official Dr. Hana Ashrawi strongly condemned:
“The deliberate murder of six Palestinians by Israeli forces in the last twenty-four hours is yet another escalation in the Israeli occupation’s brutality and inhumanity”, she said on Wednesday.
But who is listening? Who wants to hear about the deaths of Muhammad Zaghloul al-Khatib al-Rimawi, Muhammad Yousif Alayan, Muhammad Ahmad Abu Naji, Ahmad Muhammad Muhsin Omar, Naji Jamil Abu Assi and Alaa Ziyad Abu Assi? Nah, Ari Fuld, that’s the news.
Thus, the progressive Forward immediately offered not less than four articles to commemorate Fuld. Two of them were reports, but two of them were outright propaganda opinion pieces. The one, by former NYPD officer Micha Danzig, was titled: “Ari Fuld Was Not A ‘Settler’ — He Was An Innocent Victim Of Terror”. Here, Danzig is chiding outlets for mentioning Fuld as a ‘settler’ at all, because he’s just this innocent Jewish person living in ‘Judea and Samaria’, and the term ‘settler’ dehumanizes him:
By this logic, if a Jew lives in Judea and Samaria, then, the Jewish murder victim is not a normal human being whose life is sacred and precious. No, settlers are to be demonized and dehumanized, even in death.

Right, but wrong. Again.

ESR is an intelligent man, but he is fundamentally handicapped by his stubborn commitment to irreligion and his left-liberalism, which is why his diagnoses of the Left's evils tend to be accurate, but his predictions and prescriptions are reliably off-target:
One of the clearest lessons of recent times (exemplified not just by kaffiyeh-wearing western leftists but by Hamas’s recent clobbering of al-Fatah in the first Palestinian elections) is that po-mo leftism is weaker than liberal individualism in one important respect; it has only the weakest defenses against absolutist fervor. Brittingham tellingly notes po-mo philosopher Richard Rorty’s realization that when the babble of conflicting tribal narratives collapses in exhaustion, the only thing left is the will to power.

Again, this is by design. Lenin and Stalin wanted classical-liberal individualism replaced with something less able to resist totalitarianism, not more. Volk-Marxist fantasy and postmodern nihilism served their purposes; the emergence of an adhesive counter-ideology would not have. Thus, the Chomskys and Moores and Fisks are running a program carefully designed to dead-end at nothing.

Religions are good at filling that kind of nothing. Accordingly, if transnational progressivism actually succeeds in smothering liberal individualism, its reward will be to be put to the sword by some flavor of jihadi. Whether the eventual winners are Muslims or Mormons, the future is not going to look like the fuzzy multicultural ecotopia of modern left fantasy. The death of that dream is being written in European banlieus by angry Muslim youths under the light of burning cars.

In the banlieus and elsewhere, Islamist pressure makes it certain that sooner or later the West is going to vomit Stalin’s memes out of its body politic. The worst way would be through a reflex development of Western absolutism — Christian chauvinism, nativism and militarism melding into something like Francoite fascism. The self-panicking leftists who think they see that in today’s Republicans are comically wrong (as witnessed by the fact that they aren’t being systematically jailed and executed), but it is quite a plausible future for the demographically-collapsing nations of Europe.
That's not the worst way, it is the only way. If you want Western civilization to survive, then militant Christian nationalism is the only way that is going to happen. Period. Fools decry Franco, but he was one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century simply because he a) prevented his people from falling into the hands of the Communists, and, b) kept his nation out of World War II. Spain lost 4,500 soldiers from the Spanish Blue Division serving with the German Army in the USSR and promptly withdrew them. That was it. Italy, by contrast, lost 500,000 soldiers and civilians.

ESR notes that he and the Left were wrong about the past and that the Right was essentially correct. But note that this essay on suicidalism was written 12 years ago, and it's already obvious that he was totally wrong to again put his faith in the liberal Left's ability to control its extremists.

Palestine: the Testbed for Trump’s Plan to Tear Up the Rules-based International Order by JONATHAN COOK

Washington’s decision to intensify swingeing aid cuts to the Palestinians – the latest targets include cancer patients and peace groups – reveals more than a simple determination to strong-arm the Palestinian leadership to the negotiating table.
Under cover of a supposed peace effort, or “deal of the century”, the Trump administration hopes to solve problems closer to home. It wants finally to shake off the burden of international humanitarian law, and the potential for war crimes trials, that have overshadowed US actions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria – and may yet prove treacherous in dealings with Iran.
The Palestinians have been thrust into the centre of this battle for good reason. They are the most troublesome legacy of a post-war, rules-based international order that the US is now committed to sweeping away. Amputate the Palestinian cause, an injustice festering for more than seven decades, and America’s hand will be freer elsewhere. Might will again be right.
An assault on the already fragile international order as it relates to the Palestinians began in earnest last month. The US stopped all aid to UNRWA, the United Nations refugee agency that helps more than five million Palestinians languishing in camps across the Middle East.
The pressure sharpened last week when $25m in aid was blocked to hospitals in East Jerusalem that provide a lifeline to Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, whose health services have withered under a belligerent Israeli occupation.
Then at the weekend, the US revealed it would no longer hand over $10m to peace groups fostering ties between Israelis and Palestinians.
The only significant transfer the US still makes is $60m annually to the Palestinian security services, which effectively enforce the occupation on Israel’s behalf. In short, that money benefits Israel, not the Palestinians.
At the same time, the Trump administration revoked the US visa of the Palestinian ambassador to Washington, Husam Zomlot, shortly after shuttering his diplomatic mission. The Palestinians have been cast fully out into the cold.
Most observers wrongly assume that the screws are simply being tightened to force the Palestinians to engage with Trump’s peace plan, even though it is nowhere in sight. Like an unwanted tin can, it has been kicked ever further down the road over the past year. A reasonable presumption is that it will never be unveiled. While the US keeps everyone distracted with empty talk, Israel gets on with its unilateral solutions.
The world is watching, nonetheless. The Palestinian community of Khan Al Ahmar, outside Jerusalem, appears to be days away from demolition. Israel intends to ethnically cleanse its inhabitants to clear the way for more illegal Jewish settlements in a key area that would eradicate any hope of a Palestinian state.
Trump’s recent punitive actions are designed to choke into submission the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, just as Israel once secretly put Palestinians in Gaza on a starvation “diet” to make them more compliant. Israel’s long-standing collective punishment of Palestinians – constituting a war crime under the Fourth Geneva Convention – has now been supplemented by similar types of collective punishment by the US, against Palestinian refugees and cancer patients.
