Alternative Right: CITIZENS OF NOTHING

Alternative Right: CITIZENS OF NOTHINGA few weeks ago, someone I work with invited me to attend her citizenship ceremony. I told her I would go, and I did. Another young lady I know was also receiving Canadian citizenship at this same ceremony.

I figured it might be interesting to observe a citizenship ceremony, since I’d never observed one before. It was something of a STIHIE experience for me. Of course, I knew what to expect. There were 70 new Canadian citizens: most of them were Africans, and most of the rest were Middle Eastern. And all of the speeches were filled to the brim with the usual liberal democratic dogmas about freedom, tolerance, and multiculturalism.

I might also mention that there was a considerable lack of solemnity to the occasion, and that at least two of the people who spoke (the presiding officer and a guest speaker) really need to work on their speaking skills. Not to mention how absurd it is when Anglophones are required to say everything in French as well as in English.)

SAN FRANSISCO: TOWER OF BABEL

When you enter the Hall of Justice in San Francisco and pass through the metal detectors, you’ll notice a small black and White photo of Dirty Harry on the wall behind the security guards. It serves as a subtle reminder to those who enter that the law is only enforceable insofar as there is a man willing to use force.
Increasingly, however, people of cities like San Francisco are no longer willing to support men like Officer Callahan, opting instead for placing restrictions on their ability to process criminals such as Proposition 47, and supporting politicians who state the need to tolerate the misbehavior of criminals all the while living behind gated communities or high-rise condos with 24/7 security.
The result – at least for those of us who cannot afford to live in such exclusive enclaves – has been a marked increase in petty and otherwise malicious crime. Major cities such as Washington, Chicago, and New York have all seen increases in the murder rate between 2014 and 2015, and San Francisco now has the highest per-capita property crime rate of the country’s top 50 cities.

Nietzsche – between Good and Evil

Elizabeth and Friedrich Nietzsche

Nietzsche – between Good and Evil

Chapter and verse on his anti-Semitism

Was Friedrich Nietzsche anti-Semitic? In Nietzsche’s Jewish Problem, Robert C Holub shows that resolving this question requires painstaking analysis of his thought, both published and unpublished, likewise of his correspondence. It also demands an understanding of the milieu in which he lived and of how conceptions of anti-Semitism have changed over time. In this context, The Socialism of Fools?, by William I Brustein and Louisa Roberts, provides invaluable material.
There were probably no Jewish inhabitants either in Röcken, Saxony, where Nietzsche was born in 1844 or in Naumburg to which his family removed in 1850. Elizabeth Förster-Nietzsche recalled that neither she nor her brother met any Jews during their early years. Not surprisingly, then, there are no references to Jews or Judaism in his notebooks at this time or in his correspondence prior to first attending the University of Bonn in 1864 or during the year that he resided there.
In 1865, Nietzsche registered at Leipzig University as a student of classical philology. In the same year he visited Berlin with fellow student Hermann Mushacke whose father Eduard was openly anti-Semitic. This evidently did not bother Friedrich and the two became instant friends. He also tolerated anti-Jewish statements by fellow students, Carl von Gersdorff and Erwin Rohde. Gersdorff, for one, accused “Stock market Jews” of fomenting wars and of benefitting financially from them. (Brustein and Roberts note that, in due course, Henri Rochefort, editor of L’Intransigeant, would blame the Jews for the Franco-Prussian War and for the reparations afterwards. And J A Hobson, likewise, inImperialism, would attribute the Boer War to the influence of “men of a single and peculiar race”). Nietzsche himself made deprecatory observations about the Jewish merchants participating in the Leipzig trade fairs. To his mother he writes that he will soon be relieved “of the smell of fat and the numerous Jews”.

Lieberman named defence chief in deal with Netanyahu. Leader of hard-line Yisrael Beiteinu party had repeatedly said there will never be a Palestinian state.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Avigdor Lieberman have signed a coalition agreement paving the way for the ultranationalist politician to become the new defence chief.
With the deal signed on Wednesday, Netanyahu will have the support of 66 parliament members, including those from Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu party.
The agreement also widens Netanyahu's current one-seat majority in the 120-member parliament, a goal the Israeli leader has said he has sought since winning a fourth term last year.
The return of Avigdor Lieberman
"I believe the developments in the region have created new challenges for us all. But I also believe they have created new opportunities for peace, and I intend to seize those opportunities. A broader government, a more stable government, will make it easier to do so," Netanyahu said after the announcement.
The new government, which is largely made up of ultra-nationalist and ultra-religious parties is being described as the most right-wing in Israel's history.
"I think the number one priority for Netanyahu is to stay in government, that's what is motivating him. He has an unstable government. He needs to bring in another political party," Mitchell Barak, Israeli political analyst, told Al Jazeera.

My day as the only Eurosceptic at the finishing school for Europe’s elite. By Toby Young

Former prime minister of Italy and dean of Sciences Po Enrico Letta (Photo: Getty)
I was in Paris last week to take part in an EU referendum debate at Sciences Po, a French university that specialises in international relations. It’s not an exaggeration to describe Sciences Po as a finishing school for Europe’s political elite. Twenty-eight heads of state have studied or taught there, its graduates include five of the last six French presidents and the current dean is Enrico Letta, a former prime minister of Italy. My fellow panellists included Ana Palacio, the Spanish minister of foreign affairs from 2002 to 2004, and Hubert Vedrine, the French minister of foreign affairs from 1997 to 2002. I think it’s safe to say I was the only Eurosceptic in the room.
I was listened to with polite amusement, but almost no one took the threat of Brexit seriously. For them, the advantages of staying in are so obvious that they found it difficult to engage with anyone who didn’t agree. When I pointed out EU deficiencies such as its lack of transparency, the fact that laws can be introduced only by unelected European Commissioners and the widespread corruption that has confounded its auditors for 21 years, the panellists nodded in agreement. Yes, yes, no one’s saying it’s perfect. But on balance it’s been such a success that only a swivel-eyed loon would want to leave.
I did my best to shake them out of their complacency by pointing out the revolt against political elites that’s gathering steam across the Continent, with numerous anti-EU parties on the left and right chalking up victories. In France, the Front National took 25 per cent of the popular vote in the 2014 European elections, putting them in first place, while Syriza did well enough in last year’s Greek general election to form the government. The Sweden Democrats had 13 per cent of the vote in the 2014 Swedish general election, the True Finns won 38 seats in the 2014 Finnish parliamentary elections and the AfD received 24 per cent of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt in this year’s German regional elections. Wasn’t that cause for concern?

The average city dweller in Kenya pays 16 bribes a month

In East Africa’s most prosperous economy, the average city resident pays up to 16 bribes per month, according to Transparency International. Locals have dubbed Kenya “ya kitu kidogo” — the land of the “little something” — a kind of homeland of the bribe. And on the streets of Eastleigh, Nairobi, the victims of those bribes point their finger at one perpetrator.
“If you look at the police who are meant to protect them,” says local activist Abdullahi Mohamed, “they just arrest them to extort cash.”
Like most of his neighbors, Mohamed is ethnic Somali and Muslim. Half a dozen residents of the Eastleighneighborhood say the police come here not to patrol, but to get rich. They describe the same scene repeating every Friday night: Police pick up ethnic Somali residents and threaten them with jail unless they hand over money. The scene has become so normal, the neighborhood is known as a police “ATM machine.”
“They take so much money,” Mohamed describes. “You see cars from all police stations in Nairobi converging here.”
Eastleigh is targeted for bribe collection because its mostly Somali Muslim population lacks the political power to withstand extortion. The neighborhood's central artery is almost always pure cacophony. Too many cars and trucks compete for too few roads. Market stalls spill onto the streets. To survive here is to hustle; there is no quiet or easy living. Toward the back of the neighborhood, young men sniffing glue out of plastic bottles roam on dirt roads. Kenyan citizens who are ethnic Somali often describe themselves as neglected, second-class citizens.

The Mexico Way by Steve Sailer

Why does Donald Trump dumb down his speeches?
For a clue, consider how badly the elite media continues to miss the point of the most notorious thing he ever said, this infinitely denounced passage in his June 16, 2015, speech announcing his candidacy:
When do we beat Mexico at the border? They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. But they’re killing us economically. The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems…. When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.
Obviously from context, Trump’s “They’re rapists” does not mean, as often alleged, “They’re all rapists.” Instead, he’s raising the apparently excessively subtle question: “Why, with all the world to choose from, do we let immigrate any rapists?”
After all, the Harvard admissions office doesn’t feel satisfied if they hold their rapist admission rate down to the national average. America is the Harvard of immigrant destination countries, so why should it import problem people?
But, to the press, that question seems inappropriate to ask. America isn’t worthy of high standards like Harvard is. Instead, the 7 billion citizens of foreign countries should be assumed to have a civil right, under the Zeroth Amendment to the Constitution, to move to America whenever they feel like it—especially if a majority of Americans don’t want them here.
Moreover, it’s striking how few in the press demonstrated any understanding of Trump’s statement “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best.”
The obvious question ought to be: Who is the “they” in that sentence?

Reading the Constitution Right. Clarence Thomas’s fidelity to our founding documents is making its mark on the Supreme Court. By Stephen B. Presser

In 1991, George H. W. Bush nominated 43-year-old court of appeals judge Clarence Thomas, who had been on the bench only 19 months, for a seat on the Supreme Court. The president declared that “race played no part in his selection,” but the statement was hard to believe. After all, Thomas would replace Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American on the Court. Almost everyone assumed that Bush had caved to political pressure to reserve a black seat on the Court, and filled it with one of the few black conservatives on the bench.
Liberals immediately launched withering attacks on Thomas’s fitness for the highest court. The dean of the University of Chicago’s law school, eminent civil libertarian Geoffrey Stone, echoed the legal academy’s general opinion when he said: “I think, in all candor, [Thomas] fairly could be labeled ‘strange.’ Not in terms of right or wrong, but in being further outside the mainstream of constitutional interpretation than Bork”—Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork, that is, whose nomination Senate Democrats had shot down in 1987. Black leaders, despising Thomas’s political views, were particularly harsh, calling the nominee a “chicken-and-biscuit-eating Uncle Tom,” a “virulent Oreo phenomenon,” and an “assassin,” among other vicious insults. But even conservatives were dubious.
Then, as everyone knows, Thomas’s former employee, Anita Hill, brought eleventh-hour
accusations of sexual harassment against him, testifying before a special Senate hearing in what the nominee dubbed a “high-tech lynching.” The Hill fiasco nearly derailed Thomas’s seat on the Court, with many Americans questioning his honesty. The Senate eventually confirmed him in a 52–48 vote—the smallest margin for any Supreme Court justice in a century.
What’s interesting, and perhaps surprising, is that, 16 Court terms later, Thomas has quietly proved himself to be a serious constitutional thinker, who displays—for those sympathetic with his conservative jurisprudence, anyway—both great independence and considerable wisdom. Thomas forcefully rejects the notion, long favored by liberals, that the Constitution is a “living document” and that Supreme Court justices should creatively adjust the meaning of its terms to afford more protection to minorities, to invent such unenumerated rights as the “right to privacy,” and in general to promote “progressive” ends that the Left can’t seem to win at the ballot box. Instead, he has become the Court’s most persuasive exponent of “originalism”—the view that justices should interpret the Constitution as meaning what it did to those who read the document when it was framed. Since originalism is the jurisprudence most compatible with our republican form of government and the intentions of the Founding Fathers, it’s looking as though the first President Bush got it right after all when he declared, upon nominating Thomas, that he was “the best man for the job.”

Terminating an Identity: Liberalism and the Anglo-Canadian Community by Paul Bradley

Trudeau selfie with veiled Muslim women
For as long as nations have existed, so too have wars between nations. Additionally, battles within nations — commonly referred to as civil wars — have resulted in the demise of many countries throughout history.

In the modern era, however, a new category of war has begun to emerge. These battles are not fought with guns or tanks, nor do they employ other traditional elements of warfare.

They do, however, involve a calculated plan of attack. Unlike traditional warfare, these attacks do not target human beings, but rather a nation's cultural and social foundations. Equally disconcerting is the fact that the perpetrators are often those holding high level political positions within these countries.

Among western nations, it is arguable Canada exemplifies this phenomenon in its most extreme form. Not that countries such as the United States, Germany and Britain are exempt from a similar fate. The difference lies in the vehemence by which our current Liberal government support an anti-nationalist agenda, as well as the degree to which government legislation insulates this agenda from public non-conformity.

Researcher: Cologne Attacks Show German Men Have Forgotten How To Fight by CHRIS TOMLINSON

LEIPZIG, GERMANY - JANUARY 11: Supporters of the right-wing populist group Pegida march on the first anniversary of its Leipzig affiliate, called Legida, on January 11, 2016 in Leipzig, Germany. Pegida and other right-wing activists have been quick to latch on to the New Year's Eve sex attacks in Cologne. Over 100 women have filed charges of sexual molestation, robbery and in two cases, rape, stemming from aggressive groping and other behavior by gangs of drunken men described as Arab or North African at Hauptbahnhof on New Year's Eve. Police have recently stated that at least some of the men identified so far are refugees, which is feeding the propaganda of right-wing groups opposed to Germany's open-door refugee policy. Germany took in approximately 1.1 million migrants and refugees in 2015. (Photo by Jens Schlueter/Getty Images)

A respected violence researcher has declared that the Cologne sex attacks show German men have forgotten how to fight, and it’s a good thing.

Jörg Baberowski gave a speech recently at the Philosophy Festival  in Cologne on Thursday night saying that the New Years Eve sex attacks in Cologne prove that German males have forgotten how to stand up for themselves. He said the fact that the German men had not come to the aid of the women being sexually assaulted by large gangs of migrants showed a reluctance to be violent and commented: “We see that men in Germany no longer know how to deal with violence,” Stern reports.
However, immediately following the remark Baberowski, who is a historian at the Humboldt University in Berlin, said “thank god” that German men no longer know how to stand up for themselves or face violent conflict. He claimed that is was good that German men relied solely on the state to take care of them and protect them. He claimed that the New Years’ attacks were a failure of the state to protect its citizens and that if the government can’t guarantee that safety then the confidence the citizens have it it will be shaken.
The Cologne New Years’ Eve sex attacks, Baberowski claimed, were nothing to do with Islam but rather evidence of a lack of state control in the migrant camps. He said that if the state had more control over the migrant camps then the migrants would respect the law, not commit crimes and be more docile, as he describes the average German man.
Claiming that a lack of state authority in migrant camps led to the creation of gangs, he said that the solution was simple: “These people should have been immediately put in jail, then they would have learned something for life.”

Reaction on social media was highly negative of the academic’s remarks though some Germans expressed a desire to attend self defence classes. German right wing magazineContra called the comments absurd in an editorial on the subject. The author asked how any Germans could have expected that the Tarrarush phenomenon would ever occur on German streets when they had no experience with it.

Crisis in Venezuela Reaches Apocalyptic Proportions by JEN LAWRENCE

A woman holds a sign reading 'Hunger' during a demo against the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas on May 14, 2016. Venezuela braced for protests Saturday after Maduro declared a state of emergency to combat the 'foreign aggression' he blamed for an economic crisis that has pushed the country to the brink of collapse. / AFP / FEDERICO PARRA (Photo credit should read FEDERICO PARRA/AFP/Getty Images)

The situation in Venezuela has been steadily declining in the past couple of years, but in the past few weeks, it has become so dire and disturbing that scenes coming out of the socialist country are said to mirror the apocalypse.

News reports have surfaced of people having to eat their own pets in order to survive, due to a lack of food in the country.
Currently, 75 percent of Venezuelans live in poverty, a stunning increase from the 25 percent rate just two years ago.
This rapid poverty rate increase is a reflection of the precipitous disintegration of the political and socioeconomic state of the country. On May 13, the current embattled President Nicolas Maduro signed a sixty-day state of emergency decree on TV, then shortly after, accused the United States for ordering a coup against him and his government. U.S. intelligence services predict that it is unlikely that Muduro will finish his term as president.

All of the political infighting within the country has overshadowed the dire situation that the people of Venezuela find themselves in. Local pharmacies and supermarket shelves have been looted and depleted. Meanwhile, the stores that still have food and medicine have lines that go on for days. Food rationing only allows individuals to go to the supermarkets on certain days dictated by government-issued IDs. The government is incapable of providing for the most basic human needs.

David Goldman: Bill Kristol Isn’t a ‘Renegade Jew.’ Just a Sore Loser Throwing a Tantrum

Vox Day blogs: No one in the conservative Commentariat has beaten up on poor Bill Kristol more than I during the past dozen years. I read David Horowitz’ excoriation of Kristol as a “renegade Jew” with chagrin; I respect David Horowitz — and have spoken at his conferences on several occasions — and I reviewed admiringly his book A Point in Time.
But his choice of words was churlish. Kristol devotes considerable time to Jewish causes and genuinely identifies as a Jew, although his level of religious observance is low (as is David’s). Kristol certainly doesn’t think that he has reneged on his Jewish identity. But he is so absorbed in the cultish self-adoration of the neo-conservative clique, and so insecure about the perception of his manifold policy blunders (for example, his naive endorsement of the Arab Spring as near-equivalent to the American Founding), that his judgment of late has been dreadful. His third-party proposal will go nowhere.
Kristol makes the mistake of thinking that he still matters. The neo-conservatives enforced party discipline in the media and foundations they control with the same inquisitorial zeal that the Left applies to the persecution of conservatives at American universities. They crushed dissent ruthlessly, and declared anathema upon anyone who questioned them.
Now the American people have vomited them out. No candidate who took ownership of the Bush Freedom Agenda got past first base in the Republican primaries.
It is a shame, really. As I wrote in this space last year (“Two Cheers for the Neo-Conservatives“), the movement that Irving Kristol and Norman Podhoretz incubated at Public Interest and Commentary during the 1970s provided the bulk of the ideas and the cadre for the Reagan Revolution, most importantly supply-side economics. They got heady with success. As I wrote then:
To a hammer, everything looks like a nail. To the neo-conservatives, every country looks like Poland, whose democracy movement in the 1980s was the thin end of the wedge that ruptured the Iron Curtain.
I come from the neocon movement. As chief economist for Jude Wanniski’s consulting firm Polyconomics, I was a card-carrying member of the Kristol Kindergarten back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. But a stint of consulting for the governments of Nicaragua and Russia persuaded me that American democracy couldn’t be exported, and I went my own way.
I feel no schadenfreude at Bill Kristol’s embarrassment. The neo-conservatives built the closest thing that America has had to a conservative intellectual movement, and it is sad that it has failed. What we have in its place is Donald Trump, a man who has no books in his palatial New York penthouse. Let’s hope that God continues to look out for drunks, small children, and the United States of America.
Note to Conspiracy Theorists: The Neo-Conservatives Aren’t Zionists
The betting markets on the American primary elections show an 87% probability that Hillary Clinton will head the Democratic ticket and a 76% probability that Donald Trump will lead the Republicans.
Between the two, Trump is the pro-Israel candidate.
First, his daughter Ivanka is an observant Orthodox Jew after her conversion and marriage to Jared Kushner, the scion of a prominent family of Jewish philanthropists. Second, and most decisive, Trump feels no obligation to win favor among Muslims, proposing a temporary ban against any Muslim entering the United States.
Hillary Clinton, by contrast, surrounded herself with advisors openly hostile to Israel. She pondered covert funding for Palestinian civil disobedience to pressure the Israeli government.
Bill Kristol
Rarely have Americans had such a clear choice between pro-Israel and not-so-pro-Israel candidates. Remarkably, Kristol’s neo-conservatives prefer Hillary Clinton.
That should confuse the conspiracy theorists. A Google search produces 400,000 hits for the search terms “neoconservative” and “Zionist.” Yet the leading neo-conservatives say they won’t vote for Trump under any circumstances, and one prominent neocon, Robert Kagan, has already declared for Hillary against Trump. Bill Kristol, the editor of the Weekly Standard and head of the Emergency Committee for Israel, has declared that he would never vote for Trump under any circumstances. So has long-time Republican official Peter Wehner. Kristol has said that he won’t support Hillary, but threatens to mount a third-party effort if Trump is nominated — which would draw Republican votes away from Trump and help Clinton.
Remarkably, Kristol’s Emergency Committee for Israel is running a TV ad denouncing Trump for “kissing up to anti-American dictators.”
This is an unusual use of funds by an organization founded to support Israel rather than to support particular candidates — an especially unusual use in that it is directed against a pro-Israel candidate.
Trump notoriously has said that America could work with Russia’s Vladimir Putin against terrorists, and has argued that toppling Saddam Hussein and Muammar Qaddafi benefited the terrorists. One cannot quite say that Trump paints with a broad brush; rather, he throws the bucket of paint against the wall. But the neo-conservatives’ defining dogma is to undermine dictators and promote democracy. Trump’s view is closer to that of the Israeli consensus.

The CUNY Revival. Higher standards and civic and political support have rejuvenated a great New York institution. By Judah Bellin

In 1999, New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s task force on the City University of New York (CUNY) published “An Institution Adrift,” a study of the system’s failings. CUNY, the authors wrote, was “in a spiral of decline.” Noting the system’s low academic standards, declining enrollment, and failing remediation programs, they argued that CUNY was not “carrying out its academic responsibilities with the quality and consistency its vital mission deserves and requires.” But they also maintained that CUNY’s problems were fixable.
They were right—and CUNY’s fortunes have reversed. Through a combination of higher standards, smarter programs, and support from civic and political leaders, CUNY’s administrators have rejuvenated a once-moribund institution. In the last decade, graduation and enrollment rates as well as rates of transfer into CUNY have all increased dramatically. A spirit of optimism and innovation pervades the system.
Problems do persist, however. CUNY’s graduation rates lag national averages. The number of student-loan defaults, particularly at CUNY’s community colleges, remains stubbornly high. But with its continued commitment to standards, well-conceived remediation, and innovation, CUNY has good reason to feel confident about the future. If the system’s decades of crisis proved that drift is a choice, its last decade has shown that success can be a choice, as well.
New York’s state legislature created the CUNY system in 1961, integrating the City College of New York, Hunter College, and Brooklyn and Queens Colleges—all much older—as well as several two-year community colleges and a graduate school, into the new system. Some of the CUNY schools had long been havens for bright students denied admission to elite private colleges because of racial or ethnic quotas. In the early to mid-twentieth century, City College, in particular, nurtured a remarkable number of future cultural, political, and intellectual luminaries.
But within a decade of the formalization of the CUNY system, the seeds of decline were planted, when administrators adopted an open-admissions policy. (See “CUNY Could Be Great Again,” Winter 1998.) In part, federal and state financial incentives to admit poorer students motivated the decision, but student activism—what the task force called “policy by riot”—played an arguably more important role. In April 1969, protesters shut down City College’s South Campus to demand that the college’s racial composition match that of New York City’s public high schools. A wave of protests at CUNY schools followed, leading to campus shutdowns, clashes with police, and the burning of City’s College’s Great Hall. Deputy Chancellor Seymour H. Hyman, who witnessed the conflagration, remembered that “the only question in my mind was, ‘How can we save City College?’ And the only answer was, ‘Hell, let everybody in.’ ”
Open admissions severely damaged the CUNY system. In addition to erasing all community-college admissions requirements, the new policy removed such senior college admissions requirements as acquisition of Regents diplomas, completion of 11.5 credits in “required subjects,” and maintenance of minimum academic averages in the mid-1980s and 1990s. Any high school graduate with an academic average of 80 or who ranked in the top half of his class would now be eligible for CUNY’s senior colleges. Waves of unprepared new students flooded in; they performed poorly on assessment tests and required substantial remediation. By the time the CUNY task force published “An Institution Adrift,” only 1 percent of students at CUNY’s community colleges graduated within two years. Four-year graduation rates at the senior colleges had plummeted to between 6 percent and 7 percent; the CUNY six-year number was a paltry 30 percent. High-achieving students increasingly chose to apply elsewhere, and enrollment shrank. Many observers rightly considered CUNY a backwater.
Giuliani recruited former Baruch College president Matthew Goldstein—who had raised money effectively, hired more full-time faculty, and boosted admissions standards at the school—to implement the task force’s suggestions, even though Goldstein had already accepted the presidency of Adelphi University on Long Island. After a few months as Adelphi’s president, Goldstein saw a New York Observer article announcing his appointment as CUNY chancellor. “It was news to me,” he says. Torn between CUNY and Adelphi, he credits his ultimate decision to a CUNY official asking him what he wanted to do. He told her that he liked tackling “very complex problems” with “very smart people,” to which she replied: “CUNY has lots of smart people. And boy, do they have problems!” Goldstein resigned from Adelphi.

The Immigration Gambit by Steve Sailer

I haven’t actually made up my mind about this whole Brexit thing.
The British will vote in a referendum on whether to leave the European Union on June 23, but the debate has gotten bogged down because of the limits on respectable opinion. The two allowable views are that Britain should leave because other Europeans are hateful, or that Europe should stay united so it can let in more non-Europeans.
The notion that Europeans might favor each other over outsiders (its founding idea) is today unthinkably racist.
Yet the main problems driving support for Britain exiting are immigration and the English fear that the EU is increasingly a mask for German mastery, hand in glove with Germany’s Great War ally Turkey.
But you aren’t supposed to talk about such matters.
There’s some evidence that David Cameron’s government has been cutting back on the Pakistani influx after decades of immigration abuse, such as arranged cousin marriages, but it’s hard to find real news.
The latest brouhaha involves former London mayor and potential Tory prime minister Boris Johnson, the de facto leader of the Leave campaign, mentioning the H-word in connection with the EU:
“The truth is that the history of the last couple of thousand years has been broadly repeated attempts by various people or institutions—in a Freudian way—to rediscover the lost childhood of Europe, this golden age of peace and prosperity under the Romans, by trying to unify it. Napoleon, Hitler, various people tried this out, and it ends tragically.”
This outraged Remain supporters, since everybody knows the EU is good and Hitler is bad.

Donald Trump’s True Colors Emerge as He Snuggles up to Wall Street by Michael Krieger

Screen Shot 2016-05-19 at 8.44.13 AM
Earlier this week, in the post Donald Trump Will Meet War Criminal Henry Kissinger, I pointed out the following:
Since clinching the Republican nomination, Trump’s true colors have started to emerge. He named a former Goldman Sachs partner to run his fundraising efforts, he named petty authoritarian, gangster wannabe Chris Christie to run his transition team, and he chose “everyone’s a terrorist” Rudy Giuliani as his planned head of the domestic gestapo, the Department of Homeland Security. He’s also been endorsed by Orc King Sheldon Adelson, who said he was prepared to spend $100 millionto get him elected. Now he’s off to kiss the blood-soaked hands of Henry Kissinger.
Apparently, that was just the beginning. Now he’s out publicly pandering to Wall Street in ways even Hillary Clinton wouldn’t dare do.
The Wall Street Journal reports:
Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, said he intends to release a detailed economic policy platform in two weeks that would dismantle nearly all of the 2010 Dodd-Frank law, he said in an interview Tuesday with Reuters.
“I would say it’ll be close to a dismantling of Dodd-Frank,” Mr. Trump said, according to the Reuters report. “Dodd-Frank is a very negative force, which has developed a very bad name.”
Mr. Trump also said he is “not an enemy” of current Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen, although he reiterated he eventually wants a Republican to lead the U.S. central bank. “I’m not a person that thinks Janet Yellen is doing a bad job,” he added.
While I’m not a Dodd-Frank fan, it’s not because it was too harsh, but because it didn’t really do much of anything. It was the typical neoliberal bait and switch, designed to look tough for public consumption, while merely making tweaks around the edges of a financial system that requires systemic, paradigm level change.

Justin Trudeau Shows How Fake Male Feminists Really Are BY THERALPH

s6plv
I have so much going on today. I’m still finishing preparations for my trip and I’m also up here with a family member for a minor medical procedure. But, I couldn’t let that stop me from weighing in on Justin Trudeau’s recent thuggery in the Canadian House of Commons. Funny side-note: the first thing I thought about when this crossed my feed late last night was what will Janet Bloomfield have to say Saturday night on the #Killstream.
It’s unlikely that any of you missed this story, but just in case you did, here’s a short recap
[T]he Prime Minister was caught in a storm of controversy Wednesday afternoon when frustrations in the House of Commons saw Trudeau grabbing one lawmaker and then, accidentally elbowing another.
The altercation occurred when members had gathered for a vote on a controversial assisted-dying bill.
Trudeau, impatient to get the vote started, is seen on video striding over to Opposition whip Gordon Brown. He grabs Brown’s arm to direct him to his seat. New Democrat Party (NDP) Parliament member Ruth Ellen Brosseau gets elbowed by Trudeau in the process.
The rest of the CNN article I just quoted is complete garbage, by the way. It reads like it was written by a member of his press staff rather than by an objective reporter. Even if you don’t think this was that big of a deal (I do), you could at least keep your fawning over Trudeau confined to off-hours.
The main takeaway from all this isn’t how much this CNN hack sucks, though. It’s that Justin Trudeau is a complete phony and seems to be prone to violence. Not only that, this violence took place on the commons floor, which is mind-boggling. I doubt people will remember this that much by the time he comes up for re-election, but I do think it might take him down a peg and setup his eventual downfall. I know I would be reconsidering my support if I had voted for him.

Low IQ Nonwhites Crash US Academics

Only 37 percent of US high school seniors are able to pass minimum requirements for college math and reading, according to the US Department of Education’s latest National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).
The report also showed massive racial gaps in ability, and reflect the fact that nonwhites now form the majority of students in public schools.
graduation
The report, also known as the “Nation’s Report Card,” showed that only 37 percent of American 12th-graders were “academically prepared for college math and reading in 2015,” and shows a steady increase in numbers over the last few years.
According to the report, the biggest problems came at the bottom, with growth in the share of students deemed “below basic” in their abilities.
In math, 38 percent of students were in that group in 2015, compared with 35 percent two years earlier. In reading, 28 percent of students were “below basic,” compared with 25 percent.
In reading, the average score of 287 out of 500 points was about flat from two years earlier, but down significantly from 292 in 1992, when the test was first given.
In reading, 49 percent of Asian students performed at or above proficiency last year. So did 46 percent of white students, 25 percent of Hispanic students and 17 percent of black students.

According to CBS, the illegal aliens beat the man and ransacked his home because they knew he lived alone after they had done a paint job for them:
According to the complaint, Vergara told police that he had recently painted Olander’s house and knew he’d be an easy target because he lived alone and had money. They drove to his house on April 9 or 10 to rob him. The two men brought with them a black bag that contained a shotgun, duct tape and rope.
The complaint states they entered Olander’s residence through an unlocked back door. Olander was sleeping on the couch when the two men put a blanket over his head and attacked him. Olander fought back, but was hit it the back of the head with a shotgun. He was also hit on his face, head and body and his hands were bound with duct tape while the two men ransacked the home.
According to the complaint, the items stolen from the residence included coins, old silverware, two dollar bills and a large bible written in European language. The two men then fled the scene and drove back to the Twin Cities.
