'Akira' creator Otomo wins top prize at French comics festival

PARIS--Manga giant Katsuhiro Otomo won the Grand Prix Award at the prestigious Angouleme International Comics Festival on Jan. 29, marking the first time that a Japanese creator took the event’s top honor.
The creator of the internationally acclaimed sci-fi epic "Akira," Otomo was presented the award for his career that has spanned more than three decades based on votes cast by 1,600 comic artists and other experts. The 42nd annual festival opened in Angouleme in southwestern France on Jan. 29.

The Lying Sleeps Tonight by Richard Fernandez

Jonathan Ray of the National Interest examines the question of how China builds weapons that it declares are immoral. “Why does China develop weapons systems that it opposes? China criticizes U.S. ballistic missile defense (BMD) systems, but conducted three BMD tests of its own from 2010 to 2014. China regularly supports a treaty to ban space weapons, but has repeatedly tested an anti-satellite (ASAT) system.”
Why? Because the Chinese have realized that given a choice between what is real and what is depicted on paper, Western leaders always believe the paper.  Incredulously, unbelieving at first but with growing confidence they realized they can treat Western leaders with the same contempt that European traders once showed to primitive tribesmen in the Amazon or Congo rain forests.
The canny Fidel Castro, Putin or ISIS, like the Chinese understand that the Western elites have degenerated into a kind of superstition-ridden clique, as much in bondage to political correctness as those inhabitants of the Congo or Amazon were to their inchoate ideas which the European explorers ruthlessly exploited. Except now the situation is reversed.  Today it is the inhabitants of great Western capitals who can be held at bay by nothing more than a few televised dramatics or a hashtag on Twitter,  by a little sleight of hand.

What It’s Like to Crave Amputation By Alexa Tsoulis-Reay

In 2004, Dr. Michael First, a professor of psychiatry at Columbia University, coined the term Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID) to describe a perplexing condition he’d heard about via a documentary producer: People with perfectly healthy limbs were expressing an intense desire to have them removed.
Rather than a coherent psychological disorder, BIID is better thought of as a cluster of conditions, united by the strong sense in a sufferer that a limb, usually a leg, shouldn’t be attached to their body — a sensation of not “fitting” one’s body akin to gender dysphoria. For some, it takes on a sexual cast: They become intensely aroused when they imagine themselves as an amputee (this is known as apotemnophilia, a condition named by Dr. John Money in the '70s). For others, it’s all about identity: They want to be an amputee because they want to be part of that community. And then there are those for whom their limb doesn’t feel like a part of their body (practitioners who regard it as a neurological disorder call this strand xenomelia).
BIID is a challenging condition to research, so it remains little understood or reported outside of sensational tabloid stories or Law & Order plots. (As Dr. First noted in an interview, one method that might shed light on the origins of BIID could involve exposing kids to amputees in early youth and then following up to see whether this increases the odds of them developing the disorder, but this is obviously an ethical car crash.) However, his research with 53 patients who have the disorder has revealed some trends: It’s usually the left leg that people want removed, it often presents in early childhood, and sufferers are most likely to be white and male. And it is almost always kept secret, even from close relatives, because most people simply can’t empathize with the desire to be an amputee. A shocked response to a childhood confession often leads one to go silent for the rest of their lives.

Why Jonathan Chait thinks political correctness "went into a long remission" and now has returned.

My post about Chait's NY Magazine polemic — "Not a Very P.C. Thing to Say/How the language police are perverting liberalism" — blithely puzzled over Chait's assertion that political correctness was a late-80s/early-90s phenomenon that "burst onto the academic scene" and "went into a long remission" and now "has returned."

All I said was "I missed that remission... or Chait missed the nonremission." In case you couldn't tell, that's my way of saying there was no remission, but I didn't delve into why Chait experienced a remission, why the late-80s/early-90s political correctness affected Chait and he's affected again. I did say that Chait is reacting now because he and people like him are getting attacked from the left — "women and [people of color] are getting really cranked up and free-speaking and it's making him feel threatened." In this light, Chait is not so much a proponent of free speech at all, but a silencer of critics.

Liberals present themselves as the good people, and lefties — if they choose to attack liberals — puncture that smugness. But the left attack on liberals that burst onto the academic scene in late-80s/early-90s — I was there to see it — was a pre-internet, anti-free speech movement. Chait mentions "the theories of Catharine MacKinnon, a law professor at the university" — the "radical feminist critique of the First Amendment as a tool of male privilege" — and the "pro-p.c. activists" who pushed campus speech codes "purporting to restrict all manner of discriminatory speech." The left critique at the time said that free speech empowered those who were already powerful and that repression of speech was needed in support of true, substantive freedom and equality.

6 Ways Poland Is Becoming Degenerate Like America

I’ve recently written of my intense disappointment in returning to a country in which the women and culture are becoming more like what we have in America. Here are six negative changes I’ve noticed in Poland since my first visit in 2011:

1. More tattoos

polish1

Young men and women are disfiguring themselves with the typical sort of tattoo scribbles that is already epidemic in America. Polish people are deciding to pursue their individualist side by permanently drawing obnoxious things on their body instead of actually achieving something worthwhile that makes them superior to the common man.

The Controversial Chris Kyle "American Sniper" could never have dodged the contentious politics of the war or the troubled hero it portrays. By J. ARTHUR BLOOM

“[I]t may be said that the weary melancholy underlying Lawrence of Arabia stems from the stupefying apprehension that, whereas England may have been doomed to civilize the world, no power under heaven can civilize England.” —James Baldwin
“I don’t really care what people think of me.” —Chris Kyle
The New York Times review of “Lawrence of Arabia” from 1962 complains that we don’t really get to know the titular character, a fault Bosley Crowther blames on “the concept of telling the story of this self-tortured man against a background of action that has the characteristic of a mammoth Western film.”
“American Sniper” feels the same way, both in character and background. For most people, consideration of the similarities between Western expansion and America’s permanent presence in the Middle East starts and ends with how one feels about “cowboy president” jokes. But in less self-conscious times, no less than the venerable Robert Kaplan once referred to Little Bighorn as “the 9/11 of its day.” In a 2004 Wall Street Journal article titled “Indian Country,” he referred to a new kind of small-scale independent warfare:
An overlooked truth about the war on terrorism, and the war in Iraq in particular, is that they both arrived too soon for the American military: before it had adequately transformed itself from a dinosauric, Industrial Age beast to a light and lethal instrument skilled in guerrilla warfare, attuned to the local environment in the way of the 19th-century Apaches. My mention of the Apaches is deliberate. For in a world where mass infantry invasions are becoming politically and diplomatically prohibitive … the American military is back to the days of fighting the Indians.
Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) represents something like this aspiration. He’s learned the Apache ways, you might say. Snipers operate in a fairly independent way, which fits his personality. Nicknamed “The Legend,” the deadliest sniper in American history, Kyle was on his first of four tours when President George W. Bush declared Iraq a free country, which, if you’re feeling cheeky, makes this a kind of cop movie.

This Is What High Schoolers Looked Like In 1969...And It's Oddly Familiar

You would likely come across something embarrassing if you looked back at your high school photos. Some of us were still finding out who we were in high school, as there was a lot of self discovery. It was an awkward time filled with puberty, changing bodies and voices, and evolving world views.
These photos from a high school in 1969, once published in Time magazineare probably super embarrassing for the people featured in them. However, they don't seem too far off from how people currently look. It's as if time stood still...right?

Exhortation and Megalomania by Steve Sailer

It’s widely assumed, both by liberals and conservatives, that the fields of arts and entertainment innately induce egalitarian political leanings. Much of the prestige of the left, in fact, derives from the notion that it’s only natural for creative people to favor equality above all else.
Granted, there are a handful of obvious public exceptions, typically ornery senior tough guys, such as Republican Clint Eastwood. His American Sniper, with its monumental star turn by Bradley Cooper, is now on track to being the biggest movie released in 2014. This would make American Sniper the first movie for grown-ups to lead a year’s box office tally since 1998, when Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan was tops.
Out-of-the-closet anomalies like American Sniper drive the liberal press crazy with fear that they are losing control of the media.
One possibility is that artists and entertainers are less monolithically on the left than you might think, but are kept in line in public by stifling peer pressure.

The Cultural Marxist Hypothesis by Keith Preston

By Michael Enoch

Libertarian Alliance
RightStuff.Biz
It seems rather odd in this day and age to deny the existence of Cultural Marxism as an intellectual movement. But it seems that this meme has been gaining traction lately on the left. It was recently the subject of a rather low quality, but nonetheless enlightening, editorial in the Guardian by one Jason Wilson.
So what does Wilson mean when he says that “the theory of cultural Marxism is integral to the fantasy life of the contemporary right.”? The first question I would ask anyone making this claim is “What do you mean when you say Cultural Marxism?” Wilson has an explanation for that, and it’s not entirely bad.
It begins in the 1910s and 1920s. When the socialist revolution failed to materialise beyond the Soviet Union, Marxist thinkers like Antonio Gramsci and Georg Lukacs tried to explain why. Their answer was that culture and religion blunted the proletariat’s desire to revolt, and the solution was that Marxists should carry out a “long march through the institutions” – universities and schools, government bureaucracies and the media – so that cultural values could be progressively changed from above.
Adapting this, later thinkers of the Frankfurt School decided that the key to destroying capitalism was to mix up Marx with a bit of Freud, since workers were not only economically oppressed, but made orderly by sexual repression and other social conventions. The problem was not only capitalism as an economic system, but the family, gender hierarchies, normal sexuality – in short, the whole suite of traditional western values.
The conspiracy theorists claim that these “cultural Marxists” began to use insidious forms of psychological manipulation to upend the west. Then, when Nazism forced the (mostly Jewish) members of the Frankfurt School to move to America, they had, the story goes, a chance to undermine the culture and values that had sustained the world’s most powerful capitalist nation.
The vogue for the ideas of theorists like Herbert Marcuse and Theodor Adorno in the 1960s counterculture culminated with their acolytes’ occupation of the commanding heights of the most important cultural institutions, from universities to Hollywood studios. There, the conspiracy says, they promoted and even enforced ideas which were intended to destroy traditional Christian values and overthrow free enterprise: feminism, multiculturalism, gay rights and atheism. And this, apparently, is where political correctness came from. I promise you: this is what they really think.
Upon reading this, my first reaction was to ask what exactly is so far-fetched about this framing? After all, this is a rather concise, if somewhat erroneous, history of some of the major players and ideas that have informed the current left wing discourse on race and gender (along with an increasing number of niche oppressed groups and identity politics rent-seekers). The problem is that Wilson is presenting this story as a grand conspiracy starting with Gramsci and ending with Brian Williams’ daughter getting analingus on primetime TV.

The surprising cost of growing up poor in the shadow of wealth

Poverty hurts a child's chances of getting ahead, of thriving in school, ofgrowing up healthy. It touches the brain and influences the air children breathe. It fundamentally affects where they live and the kind of world they're exposed to.
"We know a lot about how kids experience poverty," says Candice Odgers, the associate director of the Center for Child and Family Policy at Duke University. "That’s been a driving force of research with children — trying to understand the toxic effects of poverty, how they become biologically embedded, how they get under the skin."
We don't know much, though, about a related phenomenon: how kids experience inequality. And new research Odgers has published along with colleagues at Duke, UC Irvine and King's College London suggests some of the answers may complicate policies designed to lift children out of poverty.
In research just published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, they uncovered a surprising result among children in the U.K.: Low-income boys who grow up around wealthier peers have more behavior problems like lying, cheating and fighting than their counterparts who grow up immersed in poverty. That result implies that there may be unintended negative consequences to efforts at creating the kinds of communities where poor and better-off families live side by side.

It’s a criminal offense to ridicule any group – in particular Jews, and except Muslims

Paris attacks
European Jewish leaders, backed by a host of former EU heads of state and government, are to call for pan-European legislation outlawing antisemitism amid a sense of siege and emergency feeding talk of a mass exodus of Europe’s oldest ethnic minority.
A panel of four prestigious international experts on constitutional law backed by the European Council on Tolerance and Reconciliation (ECTR) have spent three years consulting widely and drafting a 12-page document on “tolerance”. They are lobbying to have it converted into law in the 28 countries of the EU.
The proposal would outlaw antisemitism as well as criminalising a host of other activities deemed to be violating fundamental rights on specious religious, cultural, ethnic and gender grounds.
These would include banning the burqafemale genital mutilation, forced marriage, polygamy, denial of the Holocaust and genocide generally, criminalising xenophobia, and creating a new crime of “group libel” – public defamation of ethnic, cultural or religious groups. Women’s and gay rights would also be covered.
The proposed legislation would also curb, in the wake of the Paris attacks, freedom of expression on grounds of tolerance and in the interests of security.

Berlin says rights affect arms sale decisions

Berlin says rights affect arms sale decisions

Germany said on Monday a country's human rights record would be a factor in determining whether to sell it arms, but declined to comment on media reports that it had halted weapons sales to Saudi Arabia.

The newspaper Bild am Sonntag reported on Sunday that Berlin had stopped selling arms to Riyadh, citing government sources as saying the kingdom was "too unstable" for it to take deliveries of weapons.

The report knocked shares in German defence company Rheinmetall, although a spokesman said on Monday the company would feel little impact from any German government decision to stop exporting arms to Saudi Arabia.

Rheinmetall shares fell as much as 7.9 percent on Monday but largely recovered to end down 1.6 percent.

People can be induced to remember crimes they never committed

The idea that memories are not as reliable as we think they are is disconcerting, but it's pretty well-established. Various studies have shown that participants can be persuaded to create false childhood memories—of being lost in a shopping mall or hospitalized, or even highly implausible scenarios likehaving tea with Prince Charles.
The creation of false memories has obvious implications for the legal system, as it gives us reasons to distrust both eyewitness accounts and confessions. It’s therefore important to know exactly what kinds of false memories can be created, what influences the creation of a false memory, and whether false recollections can be distinguished from real ones.
A recent paper in Psychological Science found that 71 percent of participants exposed to certain interview techniques developed false memories of having committed a crime as a teenager. In reality, none of these people had experienced contact with the police during the age bracket in question.
After establishing a pool of potential participants, the researchers sent out questionnaires to the caregivers of these individuals. They eliminated any participants who had been involved in some way with an assault or theft, or had other police contact between the ages of 11 and 14. They also asked the caregivers to describe in detail a highly emotional event that the participant had experienced at this age. The caregivers were asked not to discuss the content of the questionnaire with the participants.

'Designer babies' debate should start, scientists say By James Gallagher

Babies
Rapid progress in genetics is making "designer babies" more likely and society needs to be prepared, leading scientists have told the BBC.
Dr Tony Perry, a pioneer in cloning, has announced precise DNA editing at the moment of conception in mice.
He said huge advances in the past two years meant "designer babies" were no longer HG Wells territory.
Other leading scientists and bioethicists argue it is time for a serious public debate on the issue.
Designer babies - genetically modified for beauty, intelligence or to be free of disease - have long been a topic of science fiction.
Dr Perry, who was part of the teams to clone the first mice and pigs, said the prospect was still fiction, but science was rapidly catching up to make elements of it possible.
In the journal Scientific Reports, he details precisely editing the genome of mice at the point DNA from the sperm and egg come together.
Dr Perry, who is based at the University of Bath, told the BBC: "We used a pair of molecular scissors and a molecular sat-nav that tells the scissors where to cut.
"It is approaching 100% efficiency already, it's a case of 'you shoot you score'."

The Case for Skepticism About Martin Luther King Kevin by Alfred Strom

Editor’s Note:

I commemorate MLK Day by taking the trash to the curb, just like any other Monday. This year, however, I also wish to draw your attention to this classic essay by Kevin Alfred Strom, “The Beast as Saint: The Truth About Martin Luther King,” first given as a radio broadcast in 1994 on the nationwide program, American Dissident Voices. A German translation is here.

When the Communists took over a country, one of the first things that they did was to confiscate all the privately-held weapons, to deny the people the physical ability to resist tyranny. But even more insidious than the theft of the people’s weapons was the theft of their history. Official Communist “historians” rewrote history to fit the current party line. In many countries, revered national heroes were excised from the history books, or their real deeds were distorted to fit Communist ideology, and Communist killers and criminals were converted into official “saints.” Holidays were declared in honor of the beasts who murdered countless nations. Did you know that much the same process has occurred right here in America?

Every January, the media go into a kind of almost spastic frenzy of adulation for the so-called “Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr.” King has even had a national holiday declared in his honor, an honor accorded to no other American, not Washington, not Jefferson, not Lincoln. (Washington and Lincoln no longer have holidays — they share the generic-sounding “President’s Day.”) A federal judge has sealed the FBI files on King until the year 2027. What are they hiding? Let’s take a look at this modern-day plastic god.

Research Confirms That Men Are, In Fact, Idiots. No joke: A new study of foolish risk-taking upholds the "Male Idiot Theory."

Although I am a man, I’m also a believer in accepting—not denying—scientific truth, whether or not it challenges personal beliefs and convictions. Therefore, I am obligated to report this interesting study, winner of the Darwin Award(link is external), regarding sex differences in idiotic behavior. Researchers tested “Male Idiot Theory” (MIT), which contends that many of the differences in risk-seeking behavior may be explained by the observation that men are idiots and idiots do stupid things. To my male embarrassment, but with committment to science, I acknlowledge that the data confirms it.
The research, reported in the British Medical Journal,(link is external) reviewed data on idiotic behaviors, as demonstrated by winners of the Darwin Award over a 20-year period, and noted the sex of the winner. The Darwin Awards Committee distinguishes between idiotic deaths and accidental deaths. For instance, someone who shoots himself in the head to demonstrate that a gun is loaded may be eligible for a Darwin Award. This occurred when a man who shot himself in the head with a “spy pen” weapon, in order to show his friend that it was real. Or, a person who mailed a letter bomb with insufficient postage stamps and who, on its return, unthinkingly opened his own letter

Why Do Indians Eat With Their Hands

Shermer and Pinker on Science and Ethics

Do you believe that science, abetted by reason will naturally and inevitably benefit the human species? Do you believe that once enlightened reason supplants religious superstition the human species will enter a new age of flourishing?

Such are the arguments put forth by scientists like Steven Pinker and now Michael Shermer. Arguing that science is naturally a force for good, Shermer asserts that those who practice scientific disciplines should be charged with making up moral principles for the rest of us.

After all, as Pinker has cogently argued we have made such great progress that we no longer throw virgins into volcanoes—or, at least, most of us don’t. And we do not, as Shermer adds make executions a public spectacle.

One hastens to qualify these instances of happy talk by noting that public executions are coming back into favor, practiced for the most part by prescientific cults. One is happy to note that they are not broadcast on the nightly news, but it would be overly optimistic to claim that they will not eventually be all over the internet.

It’s true that ISIS is a pre-scientific cult, but their practice of public beheading seems to be based on their access to Youtube.

While we accept that there is less violence in the world than there used to be, nothing about science or about human reason suggests that it will always be thus.

VHP reacts to Census: We will ask Hindus to reproduce more

NEW DELHI: Even though the data on religion-based census is yet to be released officially, right wing Hindu groups are already up in arms over the TOI report showing 24% growth in Muslims between 2001 and 2011.

VHP said its stand has been vindicated and it would make fresh appeal to Hindus to reproduce more. It would also begin an agitation in the country to press government to enforce uniform civil code. Muslim scholars have, however, countered this fear-mongering by saying that the high growth rate of Muslims is owing to their poor socio-economic status which stands with those of Dalits and the resultant lack of education.

They say the census report should wake up the government on the poor state of Muslims in the country and prod them into doing something about it. VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain told TOI, "What we have been saying since 1966, has been vindicated by this census. We will put pressure on the government to enforce uniform civil code. We will push for making family planning mandatory for all. Muslims are trying to overtake Hindu population through various ways such as infiltration and love jihad apart from reproduction. So Hindu's reproducing more is a good option to challenge this. This call is already being made." However, when pointed out that the Muslim growth rate has actually been decreasing decade after decade, Jain called it "statistical jugglery" which could not take away from the fact that Muslims were growing faster than Hindus.

Willi Munzenburg and the seduction of the intellectuals

Double Lives – Stalin, Willi Munzenberg and the Seduction of the Intellectuals
by Stephen Koch
published by Harper Collins
Reviewed by Michael Newland
How did it come about that much of the British intelligensia, for decades, was persuaded of the moral superiority of Communism, and of its inevitability as the future political system of the world?
One man, virtually unknown and unnoticed, can claim the dubious distinction of being the prime mover. Willi Münzenburg was born in 1888, the son of an alcoholic innkeeper in Thuringia, Germany, who killed himself cleaning a gun while drunk.
Unlike most of the leading early German Communists, who were upper-middle class, he could claim to be a genuine proletarian. During the First World War Münzenburg was a young left-wing radical living in Switzerland. Talent-spotted by Trotsky he soon became part of the Bolshevik circle around Lenin, as they waited their opportunity to return to a revolutionary Russia. It was to Münzenburg that Lenin turned as the famous sealed train left Zurich for Russia in 1917. “Six months from now we will either be in power or hanging from the gallows” he said.
Trotsky chose well in Münzenburg. Following the rise to power of the Bolsheviks, he pioneered most of the manipulative political techniques which are a feature of life in Britain today. Ad hoc committees for endless causes, politicized arts festivals, mock trials, celebrity letterheads, disinformation stunts and protest marches all sprang from Münzenburg’s sheer genius for propaganda.
Stephen Koch, in his book Double Lives: Stalin, Willi Münzenburg and the Seduction of the Intellectuals, calls this “righteous politics.” Political issues are turned into a quasi-religion, which brooks no debate – witness the ‘no platform’ antics of left-wing students who can tolerate no outlook besides their own.

Iran's Leader Addresses Youth in North America and Europe on The Recent Events in France

In the name of God, the Beneficent the Merciful

To the Youth in Europe and North America,

The recent events in France and similar ones in some other Western countries have convinced me to directly talk to you about them. I am addressing you, [the youth], not because I overlook your parents, rather it is because the future of your nations and countries will be in your hands; and also I find that the sense of quest for truth is more vigorous and attentive in your hearts.
I don’t address your politicians and statesmen either in this writing because I believe that they have consciously separated the route of politics from the path of righteousness and truth.

I would like to talk to you about Islam, particularly the image that is presented to you as Islam. Many attempts have been made over the past two decades, almost since the disintegration of the Soviet Union, to place this great religion in the seat of a horrifying enemy. The provocation of a feeling of horror and hatred and its utilization has unfortunately a long record in the political history of the West.

Paris Mayor Vows To SUE Fox News For ‘Insulting’ Image Of City

Paris Mayor Vows to SUE Fox News for ‘Insulting’ Image of City

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo told CNN Tuesday she intends to sue Fox News in the wake of the channel's coverage of supposed "no-go zones" for non-Muslims.

Hidalgo said the channel had "insulted" her city.
"When we're insulted, and when we've had an image, then I think we'll have to sue, I think we'll have to go to court, in order to have these words removed," Hidalgo told CNN's Christiane Amanpour. "The image of Paris has been prejudiced, and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced."
Outside legal analysts largely dismissed the likelihood that a lawsuit would succeed.

‘CIA fingerprints’ all over Kiev massacre – Oliver Stone

The armed coup in Kiev is painfully similar to CIA operations to oust unwanted foreign leaders in Iran, Chile and Venezuela, said US filmmaker Oliver Stone after interviewing Ukraine’s ousted president for a documentary.
Stone spent four hours in Moscow talking to Viktor Yanukovich, who was deposed from power during the February 2014 coup, the filmmaker wrote on his Facebook page.
“Details to follow in the documentary, but it seems clear that the so-called ‘shooters’ who killed 14 police men, wounded some 85, and killed 45 protesting civilians, were outside third party agitators,” he said.“Many witnesses, including Yanukovych and police officials, believe these foreign elements were introduced by pro-Western factions – with CIA fingerprints on it.”

JEAN-MARIE LE PEN: FROM PARIS TO VLADIVOSTOK

JEAN-MARIE LE PEN: WE NEED A UNITED EUROPE FROM PARIS TO VLADIVOSTOK. OTHERWISE, WE WILL BECOME A U.S. COLONY

INTERVIEWED BY DARIA ASLAMOVA

This 86-year-old politician is a French legend. Jean-Marie Le Pen is the founder of the Front National party and a member of the European Parliament. As a teenager, he participated in the French Resistance. He fought in the airborne troops in Indochina and Algeria. This old man gets up from his chair with difficulty and politely reaches for my hand. His left eye was damaged in a street brawl, but he sees women perfectly well with his right one. A Frenchman is a Frenchman. "A beauty, who came to us out of the Russian cold," he says to me politely. This is flattery, of course, but what woman does not melt from such compliments?
Monsieur Le Pen, you were the first to make the statement, “I am not Charlie.” Why?
I am not Charlie Hebdo. This anarchist rag was a direct enemy of our party, the National Front, and a few years ago its journalists were collecting signatures for a petition demanding to shut us down. And all these politicians, who attended the demonstration: they are not Charlie, but Charlot! (Comedians or clowns in France.—Interviewer.) They can organize a show with a powerful media attack and the slogan "I am Charlie," temporarily mobilizing the nation, but they are incapable of protecting the country from the influx of immigrants from the south. I would like to be Charlie Martel. (This was the battleship in the French naval forces named after the French military leader Charles Martel. –Interviewer) Martel, this brilliant French warrior, stopped the Arab invasion at Poitiers in 732.

Hollywood Sniper by Steve Sailer

Clint Eastwood’s Iraq war drama, American Sniper, reminds me that the central frustration of being a film critic is that there isn’t much opportunity to be a tastemaker, because it’s pretty obvious to most everybody whether a film works or not. If you have to explain why a movie works, then it doesn’t.
For example, the highest grossing movie of 2014 was Guardians of the Galaxy, a comic book sci-fi comedy starring Chris Pratt that won audiences over in its first scene and stayed in the groove the rest of the way.
Now, they don’t give Best Picture Oscar nominations to comic book sci-fi comedies—summer blockbusters subsidize the kind of movies that might win. But consider the Best Picture nominee The Grand Budapest Hotel, a very silly Wes Anderson tribute to Viennese pastries. Or something. Nobody has much of a clue what the movie means.
Not many people are going to go out of their way to see a frosting-centric film. But of those who do, few could deny that whatever The Grand Budapest Hotel is doing, it’s doing it quite well. In a spotty year for filmmaking, The Grand Budapest Hotel was the highest grossing Best Picture nominee, with $59 million in domestic box office revenue.

What’s the most fiscally responsible country in the developed world?

When you think about the developed world, says Larry Kotlikoff, don't assume Germany is the most fiscally responsible. Photo by Flickr user josemanuelerre.

Editor’s Note: Making Sen$e Social Security columnist Larry Kotlikoff recently returned from Rome, where he spoke with Italy’s new economic minister. From the outside, it’s easy to assume that Italy, with 13 percent unemployment, is in bad shape, beholden to the more economically stable Germany. But that’s a strange world, argues Kotlikoff, because Italy is actually in much better fiscal shape than its Teutonic brethren are.
– Simone Pathe, Making Sen$e Editor

Italy has a dynamic new prime minister, Matteo Renzi, whose last name should be Frenzy. In less than a year he’s made big changes to governance, dramatically liberalized labor laws, slashed short-term taxes on new hires, promised to halve the size of Parliament, and rekindled hope for his economically beleaguered country.

Asian-American Tech Tycoon Murders White Ex-Wife’s New White HUSBAND in Front of the Children

Minh Nguyen. The 38-year-old Asian is a legend in tech circles for pioneering social media on the Internet.
Asians have been promoted to whites as “the model minority.” Although the model minority’s crime rate is low, they take jobs that American white people are perfectly capable of doing. Some few of them marry white. In fact, many Asian girls prefer white males.
No matter the propaganda disseminated about how great Asians are, they do commit crimes. Corey Mattison is a white man who would be alive today if the US had a closed borders policy.
White women in mixed race marriages often end up in bad situations. Mixed race marriages create some sort of tension or jealousy that creates violence.
These women sometimes end up dead.
This one is now a widow. There were at least five children in the family. There’ll be no child support from her ex, and no support from her dead husband.
Let’s hope there’s not another white man dumb enough to marry her and support that pack of baby hyenas. If there is one that stupid, he won’t end up murdered but instead will be working himself to death to support them all. None of them his. An early grave his reward.

Towards ‘Kosher Nationalism’? (1): The Unstable Jewish-Gentile Dialectic

“Israel is not a racist State!” — FN-aligned MP and former freemason Gilbert Collard, passionately arguing against the recognition of Palestine in the French National Assembly. Meyer Habib, a French-Jewish MP representing French citizens in Israel, clapped saying “Bravo, sir!”
I have been somewhat puzzled by recent developments in the French media, namely, the emergence of the so-called “nouveaux réactionnaires (new reactionaries) advocating restriction of (overwhelmingly African/Muslim) immigration and a defense of French identity. “None of the neo-reactionnaires – not even Camus – claims allegiance to the FN [French National Front],” the BBC helpfully notes. “Many of them are Jewish.”
That would be an understatement. Four of the five listed in the article are Jewish: Éric Zemmour, Alain Finkielkraut, Élisabeth Lévy and Gil Mihaely (an Israeli dual national), all of whom strongly identifying as Jews. The only non-Jew mentioned is Renaud Camus, who has been blackballed for years for criticizing Muslim immigration (he coined the term Grand Remplacement or “Great Displacement”) and for once noting that a radio show on France Culture was entirely run by Jews. All of this is a bit of a théâtre juif (Jewish theater) as Alain Soral might say.
We have this strange phenomenon where Jews are on television promoting FN talking points on Islam and immigration. Simultaneously, the FN is still informally excluded from making political alliances with mainstream parties. There has also been backlash from parts of the Jewish community against the new reactionaries, and in particular against Zemmour, who has lost one of three media jobs.

Selma - The Best Movie Ever Made?

Are You an “Anti-Semite” if You Repeat What Jewish Elite Say about Jews!

This commentary sounds almost like it could have been by comedian Jeff Foxworthy – he’s made a career out of answering the question, “You’re a redneck if...  Below you will find a Jewish-sponsored Gentile guilt project designed to make you feel guilty and turning you into an “anti-Semite” for having opinions that have strong basis in truth — Dr. David Duke
French comedian Dieudonné has been convicted in court eight times on antisemitism charges for daring to make fun of Jews.  While he makes fun of all peoples, interestingly, he has only faced charges for his jokes regarding Jews. It’s okay to make jokes and ridicule everyone else.
And that’s the catch folks. You can criticize just about anyone for anything. You can put out pornographic drawings of the most revered man in Islam, the Prophet Mohammed, with exaggerated Arabic features,  having sex with his genitals hanging out, and that’s no problem.
But don’t make a cartoon of the butcher of Zion, Netanyahu, with the same Jewish symbols they put on their bombs and the physical features of Jews as they do to Arabs, and you might go to jail in Europe.
Lucky for me, my shtick — being a redneck — is still legal in the United States, thanks to those rednecks who wrote the Bill of Rights.
But with headlines in Britain and around the world screaming that 45% of English people hold anti-Semitic views, I called my big stereotypical Jewish broker and got me some shares in British FEMA camp construction companies! (Don’t believe that folks!)
